  A BRIEF STUDY ON DIFFUSION OF SOLIDS IN LIQUIDS

ABSTRACT

      When substances are brought in contact with each other they intermix, this property is known as Diffusion. Diffusion of solid in liquid simply means the movement of solid molecules into the liquid medium along the concentration gradient. Diffusion takes place very rapidly in case of gases and to a lesser extent in case of liquids, whereas solids do not show this process of diffusion with each other. But, the diffusion of solids in liquids takes place at a very slow rate. Rate of diffusion depends upon several factors like temperature, size of the particle, mass of the particle etc. Our aim in this experiment is to analyze how the various factors like temperature and size of particle affect the diffusion of solids in liquids. In this study the effect of temperature and size of particle on the diffusion of copper sulphate in water is detailed.
